Full Figured Fashion Week

Like many women I have fluctuations in my weight. At my "most fit" or at least my "most thin" I was a size 8. Now, twelve years and a pregnancy later I wear anywhere between a size 10 and size 14 depending on the brand. Yes, I'm curvy. With the average woman being a size 14, there is clearly a market for women's plus size clothing. But where can we (plus sized women) find clothes? Cute clothes. Finally, there is an answer. Between June 16th and 18th in New York City you can find plus sized, cute clothes at Full Figured Fashion Week. The event consists of networking events, panels discussions, shopping excursions and so much more. Tickets are on sale. I already have mine...

Perfect Match

Over the holiday weekend I did a little shopping at Sephora. I needed concealer, but left with a bag full of goodies (hair products, body wash, samples). The "Camera Ready" concealer stick that I purchased gave great coverage and the "Sheer Focus" tinted moisturizer matched my skin perfectly. Both items are by Smashbox.

re-fashioNYC

I'm a bit of a "green" fashionista. I eat organic, clean with natural products and I recycle. Whenever I do a "closet purge" I donate the clothing, shoes and accessories to local charities. I was so thrilled when I saw the new campaign that the City of New York and Housing Works have partnered to launch. Donating has been made easy. You no longer have to schlep around the city carrying your unwanted goods, you simply have to go to the laundry room or basement of your apartment building. Clean closets. Good cause. Green city.

Bottomless Closet NYC is a nonprofit organization that helps disadvantaged women become self sufficient. By providing appropriate attire, professional development workshops and enhancing personal enrichment this organization is benefiting women in all five boroughs. The organization has many opportunities to get involved. The upcoming fashion show and cocktail party is a great way to learn more about Bottomless Closet NYC.

Sunday Market

There are a plethora of festivals, fairs and free activities in New York, which adds to my love of this eclectic city. On Sundays, I enjoy going to brunch, visiting museums and of course shopping. It is always fun to take a walk through the Green Flea Market.

Southern Tradition in NYC

The 137th Kentucky Derby occurred on Saturday, May 7th. Being a Kentucky native I craved the South that day. So I joined a group of fellow University of Kentucky alumni at midtown Manhattan bar Jack Demsey's. The room was filled with Kentucky pride, the smell of bourbon and big hats. My two toned hat was a great find from TJ Maxx.
